Dying cells trigger a "fire alarm" by releasing messenger molecules such as cytokines to recruit immune cells and coordinate tissue repair. The ERC now funds the project "FIREALARM", for deciphering the molecular basis of these inflammatory reactions with about 2 million Euros.

Our paper entitled "Proteomics revealed distinct mechanisms regulating the release of cytokinesis and alarmins during pyroptosis" is out in Cell Reports! We use mass spectrometry-based secretomics to dissect protein release routes of macrophage pyroptosis.

We are very happy that Christina successfully defended her PhD thesis - congratulations from the whole institute! Right on time before the baby comes! We will have a big party for everyone who graduated when the pandemic is over. But for now, it has to be a virtual "cheers"!
