Tim Wellinghof completed his Bachelor’s degree in Biology at the Georg-August University of Göttingen, specializing in Behavioural Biology and Neuroscience. Subsequently, in 2021 he joined the Wilhelm Group at the University Hospital Bonn as a Research Assistant. At the end of 2022 he started the master’s program of Translational Neuroscience (Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf). As Erasmus+ student he joined the laboratory of Prof. Lambertsen in Odense (Denmark, SDU) to conduct his thesis in Multiple Sclerosis research. In a murine model of axonal degeneration following perforant pathway lesion, he studied cognitive impairment, microglial density in the hippocampus and possible attenuation through Siponimod treatment.

In 2025 he became a PhD student in the McManus group to investigate the implications of Western diet and associated sphingomyelins on microglial reactivity in the context of Alzheimer’s disease.
