Peter Düwell studied Pharmacy at LMU Munich and completed his PhD in Immunology at the Department of Clinical Pharmacology, LMU Munich, investigating innate immune receptors in chronic inflammatory diseases and cancer. After postdoctoral and senior leadership positions in Munich and research stays at UMass Chan Medical School (USA), he obtained his Habilitation (Venia Legendi, assistant professorship) in Experimental Medicine in 2017. Since 2018, he is Principal Investigator & Translational Research lead for Cardiovascular Immunology at the Institute of Innate Immunity, University Hospital Bonn. His research focuses on innate immunity, immune metabolism, and metaflammation in cardiometabolic diseases. In 2019, he co-founded the clinical-stage biotech company Beren Therapeutics leading translational and biomarker-driven development programs.
