Lucas Secchim Ribeiro is interested in understanding the crosstalk between immune cells in the context of inflammation and infection, including the regulation of this response to bring the system back to homeostasis. His scientific experience started in Brazil, working on immunology and molecular biology of leishmaniasis at the Federal University of Espirito Santo. After a Master´s degree on Molecular Biology, Lucas joined the Immunopharmacology group in the Department of Biochemistry and Immunology of the Federal University of Minas Gerais. He developed his doctorate work unraveling the aspects of fever as an important marker of the inflammatory response. During this period, he extended his network, collaborating in several projects on immunity and microbiology, especially arboviral diseases. The interest for dengue, zika and chikungunya diseases led him to a grant in Switzerland and a task force on diagnostics on the USA. Back to the studies on immune cells, Lucas joined the group of Prof. Dr. Bernardo Franklin in the University of Bonn, where he established the role of platelets in the modulation of inflammasome activity
