Lena did her Bachelor's thesis at the Department of Behavioural Physiology and Sociobiology in Würzburg in 2021 working on the thermoregulation in honeybees. Her Master's thesis, which she also did at the Department of Behavioural Physiology and Sociobiology in 2024, focused on analyzing the effect of two different beekeeping methods on the viral load of a predominant virus in honeybees. Lena is interested in the diverse immunesystems of different species, which is why she wanted to pursue her PhD in a medical field and study the human innate immune system. She joined the Schmidt lab in November 2024 and is now working on the molecular pathways of Gasdermin E pore formation and repair.
In her spare time, Lena enjoys attending modern and ballet dance classes. She also likes horse riding and trying out new vegetarian and vegan dishes.
